Frequently Asked Questions
- What type of medical equipment does my insurance not cover?
Durable Medical Equipment (DME) is any equipment that provides therapeutic benefits to a patient in need because of certain medical conditions and/or illnesses. These require a prescription, and sometimes will require a prior authorization.
Oscar does not cover any over-the-counter health/comfort items or DME that does not require a prescription, such as blood pressure monitors or incontinence garments.
Oscar does not cover equipment designed for comfort or convenience (e.g., pools, hot tubs, air conditioners, saunas, humidifiers, exercise equipment), as these do not meet the definition of durable medical equipment.
- How can I obtain prior authorization for my supplies?
You should work with your provider and the DME supplier to submit the necessary documentation to obtain prior authorization for your supplies.
- How much will my DME cost?

- What do I do if I need medical equipment that is not listed in the chart above?
