    • Finding a health insurance plan when you’re new to health insurance can get confusing pretty quickly when strange new industry terms are being thrown left and right. A great way to start out is by understanding the most commonly-used health insurance terms in our handy Plan Basics Guide. Here are some good questions you should be asking to get the conversation started:
      • I really like my doctor and I don’t want to give them up. Can you help me find a plan that covers them?
      • I have a monthly prescription that I need to be covered. Can you help me find a plan that covers it?
      • I have a chronic condition that requires me to visit the doctor frequently. What should I be looking for in a plan to know if it’s right for me?
      • I have a family that also needs health coverage. What type of plan would fit the needs of my entire family?
      • I rarely visit the doctor and I don’t have any prescriptions. What plan is right for me?
    • Usually you can only enroll in health insurance during the Open Enrollment Period between November 1 and December 15 every year, unless you experience a major life – like having a baby or moving. This year is a little different.In response to COVID-19, the federal government has reopened www.healthcare.gov through August 15, 2021 to give people another opportunity to sign up for health insurance. This means that if you don’t have health insurance, or you’re unhappy with your coverage, you now have the opportunity to enroll in a health plan.Here’s a short list of people who are eligible:
      • Anyone who doesn’t have health insurance
      • Anyone who does have health insurance but is interested in better coverage
      • People who are working part-time jobs
      • People who are recently unemployed and have lost health insurance they had through their job
      If your state operates its own state-based Exchange, you might have a different SEP timeline. Visit your state’s Exchange website for information that’s specific to your state.
    • Before you sign up, call Oscar or talk to your local broker to help you understand your health care needs. Call 1-855-672-2794 on weekdays from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. EST to speak to an Oscar guide who can help you find a plan that’s right for you.You can also sign up through the federal Exchange at www.healthcare.gov or on your state’s Exchange.
    • On March 11, 2021, the American Rescue Plan was passed to support people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Among many other things, the American Rescue Plan gives more people a chance to get subsidies for their health insurance. Subsidies are like financial help, or cost savings, that lowers your monthly health health insurance bill.
      • You might qualify for subsidies now, even If you did not qualify for them before. Under the new law, no family has to spend more than 8.5% of their household income on their monthly health insurance bill.
      • If you already receive subsidies, you will likely qualify for even more cost savings.
      • More financial help may be available for individuals who received unemployment benefits in 2021.
      Visit www.healthcare.gov or your state’s Exchange for updates.
    • The amount of financial help you can get is based on your yearly household income and tax household size (the number of people in your household).Check out the savings calculator made available by the Kaiser Family Foundation or contact your health insurance broker to find out how much financial help you qualify for under the American Rescue Plan.     • Depending on your yearly income, you might be able to get subsidies, or extra cost savings, to help you pay your monthly health insurance bill. You might even qualify for a $0 Oscar plan.* Check out the savings calculator made available by the Kaiser Family Foundation or contact your health insurance broker to find out how much financial help you can get. If the size of your subsidy is bigger than the premium – or the monthly cost – of your health insurance plan, then you’re eligible for a $0 plan. Visit www.healthcare.gov or your state’s Exchange to see the prices available for you.You can learn more about financial help by speaking to an Oscar guide at 1-855-672-2794 on weekdays from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. EST.*If you live in California, you may qualify for an Oscar plan as low as $1 per member per month.
    • If you already have a health plan, you must update your application on www.healthcare.gov or your state’s Exchange first to apply for more financial help. Then, your updated subsidies should take effect on your next month’s premium bill. For example,
      • Updates to your application made on or before April 30, 2021 should be reflected on your monthly bill starting May 1, 2021.
      • Updates to your application made on or before May 31, 2021 should be reflected on your monthly bill starting June 1, 2021, and so on.
      The sooner you check, the sooner you may see these savings this year. If your state operates its own state-based Exchange, visit your state’s website for information on when your savings will be reflected.
    • The additional financial help under the American Rescue Plan is available starting in April, 2021 and will last through 2022. Under the current Special Enrollment Period (SEP), you have until August 15, 2021 to apply for more financial help for 2021. If your state operates its own state-based Exchange, you might have a different timeline. Visit your state’s Exchange website for information that’s specific to your state.
    • If you don’t take action by August 15, 2021, you will continue to pay what you’re paying monthly for your current health plan. If you don’t take action but you do qualify for more financial help, you may still see the cost savings on your 2021 federal tax return.If your state operates its own state-based Exchange, you might have a different SEP timeline. Visit your state’s Exchange website for information that’s specific to your state.
    • Visit your state’s Marketplace website or call center for more information about when these additional savings will be available in your state. You can also call us directly at 1-855-672-2794 on weekdays from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. EST and one of our team members can help you.

    • On March 11, 2021, the American Rescue Plan was passed to support people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Among many other things, the American Rescue Plan gives more people a chance to get subsidies for their health insurance. Subsidies are like financial help, or cost savings, that lowers your monthly health insurance bill.
      • If you currently receive financial help, you will likely qualify for additional savings that further reduce the monthly cost of your Oscar plan.
      • If you did not qualify for financial help before because your income was too high, you might qualify for financial help now. Under the new law, no family has to spend more than 8.5% of their household income on their monthly health insurance bill.
      • More financial help may be available for individuals who received unemployment benefits in 2021.
    • Starting April 2021, you can update your health insurance application on www.healthcare.gov (or on your state’s Exchange) to see if you can get financial help. You will need to reselect your current plan to see the extra savings on your health insurance bill for this year. In most states, you have until August 15th to update your application to see if you can get these new savings for your 2021 Oscar plan. Don’t wait! The sooner you check, the sooner you may see these savings:
      • If you signed up for your Oscar plan through an insurance broker, contact your broker to check if you can get these new savings. 
      • If you signed up for your Oscar plan directly through hioscar.com or the Marketplace, like www.healthcare.gov, you can call us at 1-855-672-2794 on weekdays from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. EST and one of our team members can help you check if you’re eligible for these new savings.
    • If you enrolled for coverage through www.healthcare.gov, you must first update your application to apply for more financial help. Then, your updated savings should take effect on your next month’s premium bill. For example, 
      • Updates to your application made on or before April 30, 2021 should be reflected on your monthly bill starting May 1, 2021.
      • Updates to your application made on or before May 31, 2021 should be reflected on your monthly bill starting June 1, 2021, and so on.

    • The additional financial help under the American Rescue Plan is available starting in April, 2021 and will last through 2022. The sooner you check, the sooner you may see these savings this year. If you didn’t take action by August 15, 2021 but qualified for more financial help under the American Rescue Plan, you may still see these cost savings on your 2021 federal tax return.If your state operates its own state-based Exchange, you might have a different timeline.     • Depending on your yearly income, you might be able to get financial help that lowers your monthly health insurance bill.     • It’s hard to predict life sometimes. You might get married, grow your family, or your income might change this year. 

      If the information from your application changes during the year, including changes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s important to report these on your health insurance application. Keeping this information updated helps to ensure you are receiving the correct amount of financial assistance you may be eligible for. 

      If your household income or household size has changed, update your application immediately. You may qualify for more financial assistance than you're getting now!

    • Starting in April 2021, Covered California will determine your eligibility for new savings under the American Rescue Plan. If you are determined eligible, then Covered California will automatically apply these new savings that lower your monthly premium to your current plan, so keep an eye out for an updated monthly bill in May or June from Oscar. If you’re enrolled through Covered California and do need to take action to qualify for these new savings, Covered California will be sending you a letter to let you know what you need to do.If the information you submitted on your Covered California application changes during the year, it’s important to report these changes. Some examples include changes in your address, family size or household income. Keeping this information updated helps to ensure you are receiving the correct amount of financial assistance you may be eligible for. For assistance on updating your existing Covered California application: 
      • Contact your broker if you signed up for your Oscar plan through an insurance broker.
      • Call us at 1-855-672-2794 on weekdays from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. EST if you signed up for your Oscar plan directly through hioscar.com or on www.coveredca.com.
    • In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and as a result of the American Rescue Plan, health coverage is now available and more affordable through your health insurance marketplace, Covered California. You may now qualify for these cost savings even if you did not qualify for it before because your income was too high. You can check to see how much money you can save on your monthly Oscar premium by visiting this Savings Calculator

      If you live in Los Angeles or Orange County and are currently enrolled in an Oscar plan with access to the Oscar Circle network, note that Oscar plans on Covered California have a different network.
