November 1, 2018 -- Today, Oscar, one of the country’s fastest growing health insurance companies, will begin selling its affordable, easy-to-use insurance plans for individuals and families in select counties in Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas for 2019. Consumers seeking individual and family coverage can now enroll in Oscar plans on and off the health care exchange. This marks Oscar’s sixth consecutive year serving the individual health insurance market since its founding in 2012. The company has substantially expanded its footprint in that time, attracting a highly engaged community of over 230,000 members, and in 2019 Oscar will serve a total of 14 markets across nine states. Oscar previously announced plans to expand to six new markets this year, and the company is eager to serve members for the first time in Phoenix, AZ; Orlando, FL; Detroit, MI; Columbus, OH; Memphis, TN; and El Paso, TX. “Oscar’s mission is to make health care accessible and affordable to all. We strive toward this goal by leveraging technology to promote high member engagement and by partnering with the nation’s top doctors to create a first-rate member experience,” said Mario Schlosser, CEO and co-founder of Oscar. “We are entering Open Enrollment with more confidence than ever that the member-focused experience we have pioneered will attract more members. We look forward to serving our new and existing members and making sure they have the best health care experience possible.” What’s included in an Oscar plan? All plans include Oscar’s industry-leading perks and benefits, including free, 24/7 access to Oscar’s telemedicine platform “Doctor on Call,” a dedicated Concierge Team made up of care guides and nurses, and an easy-to-use app that puts our members’ health care at their fingertips. Together, these resources make it easier for consumers to engage with Oscar and take advantage of our health care benefits throughout the year. Because we make it so easy for our members to engage with Oscar, we continue to receive high member satisfaction for our consumer-focused approach and higher engagement with our product than industry averages (data as of October 2018):
  • 83% of members have created an online profile
  • 72% of members have contacted their Concierge team via call or a secure message
  • Nearly half of members have downloaded Oscar’s mobile app
By engaging members in their health, being their partner while navigating complex processes, and leveraging data to guide them to higher-value care, we are changing consumers’ perception of what a health insurer can do, and we will continue to improve our plans to meet the changing needs of our members.Counties & Providers Oscar integrates its technology directly with hospital systems to ensure that our members are receiving seamless and affordable access to the region’s top providers and hospital systems.
